Donald Trump campaigned on a promise to bring back coal jobs, which to any rational person sounds similar to campaigning on a promise to bring back covered wagon repair jobs. Coal is clearly the fuel of the past. Not only is it destroying our ability to live on this planet, but the mining operations have completely decimated areas of the country, leaving them looking like the hairless patches on a mangy dog. On top of that coal mining isn’t even a good job – it takes 14 years off the end of your life …or the middle of your life.
And now even Trump’s top economic aide has realized this. Gary Cohn said this week, “Coal doesn’t even make that much sense anymore as a feedstock.” He went on to state, “If you think about how solar and how much wind power we’re creating in the United States, we can be a manufacturing powerhouse and still be environmentally friendly.”
Uh oh, it appears some scientific reality is slowly trickling into the White House. Who knows where it could end. Perhaps they’ll soon realize humankind is facing an existential crisis, and coal is not the answer.
