The most puzzling aspect of today’s generation is their hell-bent determination to simply ignore proof of the failure of our deregulated, “free market” capitalism — our poverty crisis. It’s not possible to accurately assess today’s US, much less guess where we’re heading, while excluding the millions left jobless, many with $0 incomes. UN report, life expectancy of the US poor fell below that of every developed nation, etc. Yet our more fortunate think the worst off anyone can be is a low wage worker with college debts. We’ve been slowly killing off our “surplus population” — those not needed by employers — and our more fortunate do not consider this “an issue of concern.” They cannot grasp what any of this has to do with them.
